Instructions
This recipe makes a full set of pellets from size 4 through 12. or 4.5 through 12.5 If you want to cast selected sizes, reduce the recipe proportionally to the number of pellets you want to cast. You can pour the pellets to the top of the mold for wide rings or halfway for thin rings to save even more.
Put into a 1-cup glass jar:
– 1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons water
– 1/4 cup + 1 teaspoon investment powder
Stir until smooth and creamy (about 1 minute). If you find lumps, mash them with the back of a spoon.
The mass should pour well like a thick soup.
Pour into the cavities. Leave the mold undisturbed until hard, at least 30 minutes. The actual time required for the investment to stiffen depends on the humidity in your environment during pouring. If the humidity is low, you can de-mold the mold in 25 minutes. If If the humidity is very high, it can take up to 40 minutes for the investment to cure.
From the ring pellets take your actual ring stomach. The metal clay ring you make bigger according to the ring size table above.
The sizes on the pellets are USA sizes. Above you will also find a conversion table to european sizes and japanese sizes.
When pellet and metal clay ring are both thoroughly dry place them in the oven to bake off. After baking let ring with pellet cool well. Once cooled place it in a bowl of water. The pellet will dissolve.
Note: Do not throw ring and pellet into cold water to cool down. Dangerous thermal shock may occur.
Your Ring Pellet Mold will last for years if you maintain it properly. Do not place it in direct sunlight. When not in use, store the mold in plastic wrap or keep it in a container with a tight-fitting lid. Do not wrap in paper or leave on paper.
Safety
Do not inhale the investment powder. Investment powder contains silica and can cause silicosis over time if inhaled. We recommend that you wear a dust mask when working with invesment. Do not pour unused or used invesment down your drain. The particles are heavy and will stick to pipes and result in a concrete-like sediment that will lead to clogging. Instead, wipe your newly used mixing cup with a damp paper towel and place it in a trash can, or rinse your mixing tool outside.
