Prometheus® Jeweller’s Sterling White Bronze Clay is a clay-like material that turns into solid bronze after firing in the kiln.
It consists of a mixture of micronfine bronze powder, water and an organic binder.

The clay can be shaped by hand, rolled out into a sheet or string, or pressed into a mold. You can also texturize it or even turn it on a turntable.

After firing in the kiln, the organic binder evaporates and burns, leaving pure, solid white bronze.

The finished pieces can be brushed, optionally pickled (to remove oxidation) and then polished to the desired luster.

Applications

With this clay you can create unique works of art such as:

  • sieraden

  • ornaments

  • small images

Baking process – two-step method (PSW®).

Step 1 – Combustion of the binder

  1. Place the dried clay pieces on a stainless steel grid.

  2. Turn on the oven cold (i.e., place the pieces in a non-preheated oven).

  3. Increase the temperature to 500°C (932°F).

  4. Baking time: 15 minutes.

  5. Remove the pieces from the oven and place on a heat-resistant surface to cool.

💡 Purpose of this step: to remove the organic binder, leaving only the metal powder.

Step 2 – Sintering process (bronzing).

  1. Fill the bottom of a steel container with about 3 cm of activated carbon.

  2. Place the baked pieces in the tray, with at least 1.5 cm space between each piece.

  3. Cover the pieces completely with activated carbon and seal the container tightly.

  4. Place the tray in a preheated 770°C (1420°F) oven.

  5. Reheat the oven and bake for 2 hours.

  6. After baking, you can:

    • Option A: let the oven cool with the pieces in it (slowly, more safely).

    • Option B: Carefully remove the tray from the oven and let it cool to room temperature on a heat-resistant surface.

Post-processing

  1. Brushing: remove loose residue or discoloration.

  2. Pickling: dip the workpiece in a pickle bath if necessary to remove any oxidation (firescale).

  3. Polishing: apply the desired finish – matte, satin or high gloss.
