Description
Kiln Wash is applied to the kiln bottom plate to prevent glass, enamel, metal clay and glaze residue from sticking to the kiln bottom plate.
Mix 1/4 cup of powder with enough water to get a creamy consistency.
The coat can be applied with an old but clean paint brush. Apply it in 1 coat and let it dry thoroughly. Multiple coats are not necessary.
If any leftover glass, enamel or glaze, sticks to the kiln plate, it can now just be ground off with hand tools When grinding, bits of material fly around, so do this outside and use a mask and safety glasses to protect yourself.
Kiln Wash can be used in all ovens up to 1300°degrees C.
After removing the remains of glass, enamel or glaze, apply a new coat of kiln wash to the inside of the kiln. In this way you protect the inside of the kiln optimally, the kiln stays clean and tidy resulting in clean work pieces and a longer life of your kiln.

Kiln wash contains silicon therefore it is advisable to take the necessary precautions. This includes wearing a good dust mask, and gloves Also, protective goggles can be helpful. Remember to always wash hands before a break or after work.
