Description

Cloisonne wire is used for enamel work, the very fine strip, flat wire, forms the edges between different enamel colors. The width of the wire is 1.00mm, thickness is 0.20mm and 100cm long. The wires are made of fine silver (SV990).

Cloisonné is a technique of enameling in which one attaches crushed wire in certain motifs or figures to a metal surface. This can be done with glue but also by first applying a layer of enamel, then applying the wire to it and heating the object in the oven where the wire partially sinks into the layer of enamel. The spaces between the pieces of wire are covered with different colors of enamel powder. The crushed wire prevents the colors from blending into each other during the heating of the enamel. Each color is thus locked in its own cell.
