Sanding and polishing

Touching up, Sanding and Filing

The dried project turned hard.

Note! The project is now very fragile!

It can now be touched up and sanded in the following ways:

  • You can touch up blemishes with Silver Clay paste or spray paste. Dry the workpiece again after applying the paste.
  • Then you can sand the workpiece smooth with the sanding pads.
  • Baby wipes are also useful at this stage to achieve a perfectly smooth result.
  • And at this stage, you can also file or scratch patterns or lines into the jewelry.
  • To flatten edges and straighten edges, paper can be used with e.g. grit 400 By making a circular motion, a ring, for example, can be sanded nice and straight,
  • Various micro files can be used to file openings larger, remove bumps and engrave.
  • Brushes and water brushes can also be used to touch up blemishes. Sometimes actions must be repeated several times for a perfectly smooth and tight result. In any case, make sure that between steps the jewelry is always thoroughly dry.

Merge parts.

With silver clay / metal clay you can work very well in 3d. Make individual parts, touch them up and join them together. You can “glue” the different dried parts together with water, if they are very small pieces or with water mixed with a little silver clay paste for the larger parts or with undiluted paste for the larger parts.
