Blitz stain is suitable for blackening copper and silver.
To oxidize or “blacken” silver and copper, dip your jewelry in blitz stain (=sulfur yellow) for a few seconds or apply it with a brush to the parts to be blackened.
For best results, first clean the jewelry in a solution of water and baking soda. Greasiness will then be removed, giving the jewelry regular color.
Methods of application
-
Local: Use an old brush, a disposable makeup brush (can be used several times) or a cotton swab to apply the Blitz stain to the parts you want to blacken. This method is especially suitable if you do not want to blacken the entire piece of jewelry or if, for example, there is a stone incorporated into the jewelry.
-
Entire piece of jewelry: If you want to blacken the entire piece of jewelry then add a few drops of Blitz stain to a cup of hot water. Then immerse the entire piece of jewelry in the liquid. Taking it out and immersing it again and repeating this will speed up the staining process. The stain is now activated and blackens the metal. The hotter the water the blacker the jewelry. With lukewarm water a shade of color is created.
After treatment, rinse the workpiece well under the tap and neutralize with baking soda.
Finishing after applying blitz stain
Let it dry thoroughly and then sand the high areas back to silver with a fine sanding pad. This creates depth in your workpiece
After sanding, the higher areas can be finished with an agate pen or brunning steel for extra gloss. By scraping with the agate pen or brunette steel over the higher areas, a high-gloss finish is created.
If necessary, you can fix the jewelry with wax or varnish. If the oxidized layer disappears over time, you can repeat the treatment.

Notice:
Efficacy deteriorates under the influence of daylight. Therefore, store your stain in a dark place and close the cap tightly.
